Brunei AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 squad: Who's in and who's out

Which players have Brunei picked for the 2022 AFF Championship?

Brunei will make their first appearance at the AFF Championship since 1996, when they crashed out in the group stages.

It's not always been plain sailing for them at an international level, but the appointment of new coach Mario Rivera in 2022 has led to some optimism, with their first positive step being qualification for the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup at the expense of Timor-Leste.

Brunei are paired with the likes of Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Cambodia in Group A and will kick off their campaign against Thailand on December 20.

Here's a look at their squad selected by Rivera.

  • GOALKEEPERS

Haimie Abdullah Nyaring is the most experienced goalkeeper for his country and seems to be the favourite to get the nod between the sticks.

Ishyra Asmin Jabidi and Jefri Syafiq Ishak will be in reserves.

Azwan Saleh is one of the first names selected by Brunei's coach on the team sheet to slot in at central midfield alongside Azwan Ali Rahman.

Captain Hendra Azam Idris and Nurikhwan Othman are expected to marshal the flanks.
